Specialist Speech and Language Therapy Services
Providing comprehensive speech and language therapy services to children and adults, Susan Roe Speech Language Therapy Services offers individualised programmes in a range of settings including via telehealth/web, home or school/preschool.
Voice Therapy
Hoarse, whispered, strained or weak voicing, difficulty with vocal projection or vocal fatigue are some symptoms of voice disorders.
Some voice disorders are caused by vocal overuse or misuse and can occur in individuals who depend on their voice for work, including teachers, business people, actors and singers. We provide voice assessment and intervention programmes for adults and children with voice disorders. The voice evaluation includes an analysis of how the voice is being used. Clients are usually referred following an examination by an ear, nose and throat specialist doctor. |
Voice therapy programmes include vocal health education and training on how to best use the voice for a particular situation.
Speech and Language Therapy for Children
Assessment and treatment of a range of speech and language difficulties are available. We complete an initial evaluation and then provide programmes for all ages of children including preschoolers and adolescents in the areas of speech sound disorders/unclear speech, understanding and expressing information, as well as hearing impairments and voice disorders.
We recognise the significant impact these challenges have on a child's future and our aim is to support young people to communicate to the best of their ability. We provide services via telehealth/web, school or pre-school or in some cases in the home. We can offer blocks of therapy. |
Neurological Rehabilitation
Neurological events such as stroke and traumatic brain injury can result in communication disorders. These disorders can include unclear speech, quiet voice, difficulty understanding and expressing language, as well as impaired reading and writing. Difficulties with social interactions and other aspects of cognitive communication function for daily life can also occur with these conditions. Some people may also have difficulty in swallowing.
Speech-language therapy aims to facilitate improvements in these areas, resulting in improved participation in life. We offer an evaluation of overall communication skills, followed by an intervention programme developed for the client's daily needs. We also provide swallowing assessment and intervention programmes. These services are available for rest homes and private hospitals. |
Speech Improvement and Accent Modification
We offer a programme to address speech clarity and pronunciation issues which may be associated with English as a second language or a hearing impairment. These speech difficulties can hinder progress in school or career. Our assessment and intervention programme is designed to improve the overall clarity of speech and effectiveness of communication for everyday life to help achieve goals. Recommendations for home practice are included in the programme. |
